“I wish”
I’m truly perturbed by the events happening throughout the country and what I’m hearing and seeing on the news. I actually cried the other night when I witnessed the abuse of an elderly woman at the hands of her in-home caretakers. The execution style murders of those three young college bound students out of Newark, NJ, the never endless wars in Iraq, the millions of young lives being lost, the continuous violence in our streets, all of the storms, fires, floods and famine happening in the land. My tears are many and this hurt cuts me deep. I cannot bear to watch the news in the evening because a lot of what’s happening lay heavy in my mind, on my heart and in my spirit. I believe the murders of those three promising lives cut short out of Newark, NJ is a turning point, a turning point for change and transformation. Those killings were nothing short of the devil himself; he robbed so many in this unfortunate and fatal incident. He’s trying to rob the faith of the people, the spirit of hope for a city; the self-assurance of the innocent, the bearings of a race and the “peace of mind” of the young children who will return to school in the weeks ahead. Letters of fear and concern from children in the city of Newark, NJ swarmed the mayor’s office following this horrible tragedy. Mayor Corey Booker have a huge challenge ahead of him ensuring Newark’s fight against crime, while the world watches and the media adamantly remind us, of Corey Booker’s campaign promises of change for Newark; and ridding its streets of violence. Although African American, I can tell that Mayor Booker is not use to the cultures in a city where he was elected however, he is the right man for the job. The proof is; all of the opposition he’s dealing with and facing. Check this out, the opposition is the myth, anything that is false will always appear as the opposite of what is real, factual and true. Opposition is the resistance but the pain will precede assistance. The issues the devil used to divide Newark’s government and policies will be modified to usher in change and compassion toward one common goal. The brutality of that school yard execution is simply inconceivable; those young people’s lives should not, have been taken but a massive sacrifice will be paid for their blood which was shed.
So as I celebrate another birthday on September third, I want to share my wish with these simple words.
My wish is for peace and calm in the land,
The strength to endure and wisdom to understand…
Very trying, this time we’re living in,
A world that’s lost and rapid with sin...
I’m praying for hope and faith to restore,
Imparting those lost, to choose life to live for…
My wish is for change to those who just doubt,
To stay the course but take another route…
My prayer is for love for hearts grown cold,
To embrace what’s right and share the knowledge I hold…
My prayer is for those, maybe living in fear,
To trust a God, who knows every care…
All of my hopes, just one big list,
For this lifetime, oh what I wish……..
