“Honor our Father’s”

I think society is crafty with implementing holidays to emotionalize our actions, our mood and our behavior. During the holidays, depression increase and the suicide rate is high. Christmas serves the mindset of shopping, overindulging and buying gifts into debt. Valentine’s Day is a mind game to make you feel inadequate if there is no “special someone” in your life. These holidays ignite all kinds of emotions, which bring about all sorts of mourning; starting with deceased loved ones to departed relationships. And just the thought of these impending holidays of the year, this can be upsetting for some. In the meantime, you have stores advertising to the max, to lure consumers from shoes, to clothing, to flowers, candy and every popular electronic gadget ever created. In speaking to certain friends, relatives and associates this week, they’ve stressed how, “They can’t wait until Father’s Day is done”.

But the holidays have a new meaning for me, it’s about appreciating who you have, what you have and the wonderful memories of what is now; or what use to be. It’s about being grateful and understanding fully, the importance of individuals; and the increased value of a loved one, gained over time. This is why; I believe, it’s imperative to honor our mothers, our fathers, and our loved ones now; each and every day that we live; not just on one particular day of a year, that has been set aside on the calendar. Society should not have to dictate to us; when to love, when to appreciate, or when to honor. Especially those loved ones who have made some sort of sacrifice in their lives.

I thank God, the ultimate Father, for the father’s in my life; the memory of my grandfather (Ezekiel Bell), my dad especially, my brothers, all of my uncles, my cousins and friends. I will honor my father, as I always do, with love, words of appreciation and a nice meal.
How will you honor your father? And if your father is no longer here in the physical, how will you honor his memory? Please share with us your fond memories or your thoughts, we’d like to know….

The fondest memory I have of my Father is when I first joined his church. My Father and my minister gave me a huge hug in the middle of the church.  That was one of the few times he ever physically showed that he loved me.  I will honor his memory by taking time out for my self and working hard for what I want out of life.
